At Aurora Cornerstone, we want to help you explore the good news of Jesus, and equip you to grow your relationship with God.
The word "Gospel" means "Good News" — and it's the good news about Jesus!
Here are 10 things you should know:
1. What it means
Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and came back to life. That’s the Good News!
In 1 Corinthians 15:1–5, the Apostle Paul wrote, “I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve [disciples]” (NIV). The main point is that He died for our sins and rose again so we could have eternal life.
2. It’s simple
There are two main parts:
– Jesus died for us.
– Jesus came back to life.
3. It’s not just a religion
Religion is people trying to reach God in their own strength, by using their own plan. But the Gospel is about God coming to us through Jesus, His son.
4. It’s a free gift
You don’t have to pay or do anything special to earn Salvation. You simply believe and accept it.
5. It’s for everyone
Anyone—no matter who they are—can believe in Jesus and be saved.
“the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16, NIV).
6. It gives you peace
The Gospel helps fix our friendship with God. Through Jesus, it bridges the gap between our sinful nature and God. This is the Gospel of Peace.
7. It happened once
Jesus only had to die once. That was enough to save us forever.
8. It’s one of a kind
Jesus coming back to life makes Christianity different from any other belief.
9. Jesus already did the work
We don’t have to make peace with God ourselves—Jesus already did it for us.
10. You can choose it
If you believe in Jesus, you become part of God’s family and get to live with Him forever.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12, NIV).
Are you ready to make a new commitment to follow Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of your life?
This is amazing news! When you turn from a life lived without Jesus, to faith in Him, you have made the greatest decision you could ever make in your life. We believe that the moment you surrender yourself over to His lordship is the very moment that you’ll experience true freedom and purpose as you repent of your sin and receive the power of the Holy Spirit!
Believing in Jesus Christ is an act of faith, based on all that we read about Jesus in the Bible. It is not blind faith, however. It’s putting your trust in a Person, a living and active person Who guides and directs you in life. In some ways it’s like a step of faith taken by a bride and groom when they say "I do!" on their wedding day.
Sorry - Ask God to forgive you for all the things you have done wrong and then help you turn from them. This is called Repentance, and it simply means to change your mind. The fruit of this repentance is a change in how you live.
Thank You - Believing that Jesus died for us on the cross shows us the price that He paid for our sin. He made forgiveness available to all of humanity and gave us the Holy Spirit and this deserves all of our thanks and gratitude!
Please - God never forces His way into our lives. We need to accept His gift and make the decision to invite Him to come and live within us by His Spirit.
Below is a simple prayer that, when prayed with sincerity, will help you to renew this relationship with Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ,
I am SORRY for the things I have done wrong in my life.
(take a few minutes to ask His forgiveness for anything particular that is on your conscience.)
PLEASE forgive me. I now turn from everything that I know is wrong.
THANK YOU that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. I believe that God raised you from the dead. Amen.
Congratulations! We are SO excited for you as you make this decision to turn back to Jesus and embark on life’s greatest adventure; living in a relationship with Jesus Christ. As a Church family, we want to help and support you in this new season of life.
God loves when we talk to Him, even if we don’t know fancy words. He’s not disappointed if our prayers are simple—He’s actually happy that we want to talk to Him at all!
Sometimes people are scared to pray because they think they aren’t good at it. But God just wants us to be honest and talk to Him about what’s in our hearts. He already knows what we need, but He likes it when we spend time with Him.
When babies first learn to talk, they don't speak in full sentences. They just say little words, and their parents get really happy, even with the small stuff.
The Bible says that when someone starts to follow Jesus, it's kind of like being a baby again—but in a good way! You’re just starting to learn and grow, like a “baby in Christ.” The Bible helps us grow strong, kind of like how milk helps babies grow.
If praying feels hard, we can read the Bible first to help us understand more about God. Then we can thank Him, tell Him how awesome He is, and ask Him to help other people too—not just ourselves. When we do this often—reading the Bible and praying—we grow up in our faith and get closer to God, kind of like growing from a baby to a big kid!
When the Disciples asked Jesus how to pray, he said this in Matthew 6:9-13 -
Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtor.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
The Bible has many books, and it can seem overwhelming at first. Here's some advice on how you can start -
Pray first – Ask God to help you understand what you're about to read.
Be patient – It’s okay if you don’t understand everything right away.
Be curious – The Bible is full of amazing stories, lessons, and truths!
Here are some easy steps to help you start reading the Bible and learning more about Jesus:
You might not understand everything you read, and that’s okay! Don’t give up. The Bible helps you learn what God is like and gives you good advice.
While you read, ask yourself:
What does this part mean?
What is God trying to tell me?
How can I use this in my own life?
The Lord’s Supper (Communion)—is a sacred and powerful act for Christians. It’s a deep spiritual reminder of what Jesus did for us.
If you’ve put your faith in Jesus and understand what communion means, you’re welcome to participate. Before you do:
Take a quiet moment before communion to pray.
Confess anything weighing on your heart.
Thank Jesus for His sacrifice.
Receive the bread and cup with joy and reverence.
Here's what Scripture says about it:
1. Jesus started communion as a way for us to remember Him
Luke 22:19–20 - “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup… saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’”
Key truth: Jesus started communion the night before He died. He told His followers to remember Him through the bread (His body) and the cup (His blood).
2. Communion reminds us of Jesus' sacrifice
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 - “…The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread… and said, ‘This is my body… do this in remembrance of me.’… In the same way, he took the cup… ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood…’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
Key truth: Communion is a proclamation—every time we take it, we are declaring that Jesus died for us and that He is coming back.
3. Communion is for believer's who examine their heart
1 Corinthians 11:27–29 - “So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty… Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat… For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.”
Key truth: Before taking communion, believers are called to examine their hearts—to confess sin, seek forgiveness, and come with reverence and faith.
Water baptism is when a person is immersed under water, making a public declaration of their decision to follow Jesus. It's a symbol of what's already happened in their heart.
What the Bible Says About It
Jesus was baptized
“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water...”
— Matthew 3:16
Jesus was baptized to set an example for us.
Jesus told His followers to baptize others
“Go and make disciples... baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
— Matthew 28:19
It shows a new beginning
“We were buried with him through baptism into death... so that we too may live a new life.”
— Romans 6:4
So What Does It Mean?
Water baptism shows that:
- You believe in Jesus and want to follow Him.
- You are washed clean from your sins (not by the water, but by Jesus).
- You are leaving your old life behind and starting a new life with God.
Who Should Be Baptized?
According to the Bible, people who believe in Jesus and want to follow Him should be baptized. In the book of Acts, people believed and were baptized right away.
“Those who accepted his message were baptized.” — Acts 2:41
