I met with an elder gentleman in our church this morning for prayer and the word. We had a fabulous time and he read a verse to me... This verse is on my heart to share with you. It will help you in your well being. We all want to do well. We all want to feel good about our lives, our accomplishments, our being and all that we do. How do we accomplish that state of well being?
The children of Israel were in a bad state, they were obeying lying words, they were living disobedient lives, they ignored the voice of God and God was going to deal with them severely. If you have time you can read this whole chapter of Jeremiah seven. I want to stick on one verse that we read this morning. A verse of hope Jeremiah 7:23. "But this is what I commanded them, saying "Obey My voice and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you."
We all need to learn to hear and obey the voice of God. If we want things to "be well with us" we must move and act on his voice. The other part of that verse that stuck out to me is the part that says "walk in in all the ways I have commanded you". I preached about it yesterday. To walk in something is to be involved in a continual and regular action, it implies progress, it takes you from one place to another. We have some key things we need to walk in. First of all we listen to the voice of God and are contiually moving to the direction he says. Secondly we listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Paul said, "I say then; Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." When we start fulfilling the lusts of the flesh we cry out in the pains of it not being well. We think it's well while we listen to the flesh and not the Spirit, but it's a walk that doesn't lead to wellness. The only walk that leads to wellness is the voice of the Lord and leading of the Holy Spirit.
May it be well with you this week.
