Love is in the air…

The first thing I did this morning is grab my iphone and text my status for the day. As I'm typing my wife leans over to me and says what are you doing? I'm typing to the world that I love you, that I love our kids, I love our friends and our church. All over the world people will be wishing others a happy valentines day. Love is in the air. What is that love that is in the air? Why do we feel the way we do towards others? I remember holding the hand of my first girlfriend. Wow! the feeling was fantastic. You get the goose bumps, the nervous excitement, the feeling of love was in the air. What makes us feel that way?

I believe all the world is crying out for love. We are looking for some affection, something that will make us feel good.We love the feeling of feeling good, we love to know someone is thinking about us, we like to know that we have a friend that we can share things with. The truth is! just like valentines day will come and go so will thee feelings that are based on things that make me feel good. That's not to say we can't have genuine friendship, good feelings about another person, or the excitment of holding a lovers hand. We can have all theses things, but the only true love that lasts is the love of God. God has that Agape kind of love for us. It's an unconditional kind of love. He's the true love in the air. When we discover the love of God and that love becomes the fruit of our lives we have the ability to truly love. "The fruit of the Spirit is love".

Could you imagine a world with me that is patient, joyful, kind, gentle, peaceful, long suffering. Imagine with me a world that would bear that kind of fruit. I think we all imagine a world like that. I think we all imagine children like that and friends. This is the kind of place and relationship we all long to live in, but so few of us long to offer. Let me tell you this and listen to me very closely this valentines day. We can have a world like this. Each one of us have the ability through Christ to offer that kind of world to our spouses, our families and friends. You have it within you to do and be that kind of lover, that kind of friend, that kind of church member and neighbour. Why don't we all offer that kind of love for valentines? Why wouldn't we? Because we find it easier to give flowers, we find it easier to buy chocolates, those things don't change my life. The kind of love that I'm talking about will change you forever. So we can give out of our feelings and emotions, out of the excitement of the love that we feel in the air or we can give out of whom Christ has made us. What and how will you give today?
